ALTEO GROUP

CRADLE OF ALUMINA WORDLWIDE

Alteo Refinery Guinea (ARG) project was born out of the geopolitical events of early 2022, which made Europe and the Atlantic zone’s alumina markets dependent on regional, Russian and Chinese imports. This project is in line with current European policy under the Critical Raw Material Act, which aims to ensure industrial sovereignty through controlled supplies of this essential input.

The project draws on the know-how of Alteo, a world pioneer in the manufacture of alumina and the Bayer process from bauxite, and a subsidiary of the UMSI Group, the historic industrial and mining operator in Guinea.

Guinea is today the largest bauxite producer, supplying 70% of China consumption (83% of the alumina production capacities wordwide) and represents a strategic country for the aluminium value chain, located close to Europe.
