Where is the alumina refinery located ?

It is located in the towns of Kabata/Kassopo, near Kamsar – Boké region, in a strategic area close to bauxite resources and transport infrastructures.

The main objective is to transform bauxite into alumina, a key raw material for aluminum production, while contributing to Guinea’s economic and industrial development.

The project represents an investment of 1.5 M€, including the construction of facilities, modern equipment, and the development of the surrounding communities.

The refinery has a planned production capacity of 1.2mT tons of alumina per year.

What are the potential environmental impacts of the alumina plant ?

The alumina plant could have environmental impacts such as water and energy consumption, atmospheric emissions (CO2, dust), and industrial waste management. Environmental impact studies have been carried out to minimize these effects through modern technologies and compensation measures.

Waste, including bauxite residues, will be managed in accordance with international standards, with secure storage facilities. We are also putting in place recycling initiatives and research into the recovery of by-products.

We have established a biodiversity management plan that includes actions to preserve natural habitats, reforestation programs, and collaboration with local and international experts to monitor affected ecosystems.
